The American Institutes for Research-English Language Learners Center is pleased to host a symposium series, Connecting Research, Practice and Policy: Supporting Success for English Language Learners. Our first half-day event is focused on Using RTI to Improve Achievement for English Language Learners. The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the American Institutes for Research in Washington, DC. This event features several distinguished panelists who are researchers, practitioners, and policymakers including: Janette Klingner, Ph.D., from the University of Colorado at Boulder; Julie Esparza-Brown, Ed.D., from Portland State University; Alexa Posny, Ph.D., the Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services at the U.S. Department of Education; and Darren Woodruff, Ph.D., from the National Center for Response to Intervention (RtI). These presenters will address the importance of differentiating support for ELLs, discuss the effective implementation of RtI for ELLs, and engage the audience in an interactive discussion about implications for policy and practice.
